This project was all about finding a problem within my chosen brand which was Barbour and identifying a solid, in depth solution. I identified that Heritage fashion remains culturally visible yet emotionally distant, due to traditional luxury codes that prioritise status over lived experience in a time of economic and emotional uncertainty. To solve this I explored how Barbour’s archive can be reimagined as an emotionally accessible space for Gen Z, creating a sense of nostalgia, connection and belonging for an audience who didn’t experience the brand’s past firsthand.

archive as invitation.

the BIG idea

To reposition Barbour’s heritage from a marker of status into a shared emotional experience using tactile pop-up spaces and personal storytelling through imagery, using Barbour’s archives as a place for connection, memory and belonging.

Overall, Archive as Invitation is a visual study of how small details such as a crease, a stitch, a handwritten note, can all hold emotional weight. The images use soft light, analogue textures and quiet framing to create a sense of closeness, turning the archive into something you can feel rather than simply view. It’s an invitation into a slower, more personal relationship with heritage, where stories are carried through touch, memory and lived‑in materiality.

process

I led this project from initial research through to final execution, spending six months refining the concept, shaping the narrative and curating a visual world that felt true to Barbour’s heritage. My role included developing the insights through primary and secondary research, defining the creative direction, and designing a shoot that captured the emotional, tactile atmosphere I wanted to communicate. I planned, styled and directed the imagery, ensuring every decision, from location to movement to tone, aligned with the brand’s legacy while feeling relevant to younger audiences. This project reflects my ability to carry a long‑form brief independently, evolve an idea over time, and translate research into a cohesive, contemporary outcome.
